Why it ends up being needed

Almost everyone knows their website could be better. What almost nobody knows is which three things, out of the thirty possible, are costing money this month. And without that short list, the conversation with whoever runs the site turns into an argument about taste.

The typical case is a site built three or four years ago that works, that nobody has looked at since, and that takes six seconds to paint anything on a phone. Nobody complains, because the people who leave do not write to say so. The owner sees visits and no enquiries, and has no way of telling which of the two is failing.

Four things get looked at here and ranked by what they cost to fix against what they return: speed measured on a phone with a limited connection, what each page promises and what action it offers, how consistent your business listing is across the web, and whether the legal notices match what the site actually does. What comes out is a report, not a list of chores.

What is included

  • Speed measured on a phone over a slow connection, not on a laptop with fibre
  • The copy read as a customer would: what each page promises and what it asks you to do
  • Your business listing, and whether your name, address and phone match everywhere online
  • Legal notice, privacy and cookie pages checked against what the site actually does
  • A report ranking what to fix by impact, and what you can safely leave alone

What gets decided before a line is written

  • What the speed is measured on — A mid-range phone on a limited connection, not a laptop on fibre. The gap between those two readings is measured in seconds, and most of your visitors are in the first one. Measuring on the good one is how a slow site spends years seeming fast.
  • What gets read, and with whose eyes — Every page is read as a first-time customer, not as the person who wrote it: what it promises, what it proves and what it asks you to do. That is where the most common failure shows up — a site that explains who you are and never says what it solves.
  • What gets checked about ownership — Whose name the domain is in, and whose name the theme and plugin licences are in. Almost nobody looks, and it decides whether you can change supplier or not: that is a business fact, not a technical one.
  • What is deliberately left out of the report — Anything that will not get fixed. A report with forty findings ranked by severity gets applied by nobody; one with five things in running order gets applied the same month.

What is not included

  • Applying the changes: the report is written for whoever runs your site to execute.
  • A full SEO audit with keyword and competitor research: that is the search marketing service.
  • Redesign or content changes.
  • In-depth code review or a security audit, which is the cybersecurity service.

What you need to have

  • Your website address
  • Read-only access to the admin panel, if you want the detail on plugins and versions

Frequently asked questions

Is this an SEO audit?

Not quite. SEO is one of the four parts, alongside speed, copy that sells and the legal pages. A full SEO audit is a different job and we do not do it: we would rather give you the four things you can actually fix this month.

Do you fix what you find?

The report is written so that whoever runs your site can apply it, with enough detail to do so. If you would rather we handled the upkeep, that is «Your website kept up to date», and we take this review off your first month.

Is it useful if an agency built my site?

Especially then. Two things come up that almost nobody checks: whether the domain is registered to your company, and whether the theme and plugin licences are in your name. If they are not, you cannot change supplier.

What if my site turns out to be fine?

We say so and hand you the report explaining why. It has happened, and it is a legitimate answer for 149 €.
